There are no hard and fast rules: it's all about balance, taste… and inspiration. While every creation is unique, we offer some simple guidelines regarding proportions, materials, and intended use to guide your choices, without ever stifling your creativity.   1. Ensure compatibility with the lampshade

  • Small lampshade → thin or small base
  • Medium lampshade → standard base, 30 to 40 cm
  • Large lampshade → wider or taller base to create a harmonious silhouette

Decorating tip: For a well-proportioned lamp, the base should represent about 2/3 of the total height of the lamp, and the lampshade about 1/3 .

Example: If the lamp base is 30 cm long, then:

  • The lampshade should measure 15 to 20 cm (1/3 of the total height)

  • The total height of the lamp will therefore be between 45 cm and 50 cm.

  • For a coloured or patterned lampshade, choose a simple base: natural wood, black metal, clean lines.
  • For a plain and minimalist lampshade, dare to use a sculptural base or a more assertive material: brass, dark wood, ceramic.
  • Think about the style of your room: Scandinavian, bohemian, retro, contemporary… let your interior speak for itself.
  • Natural wood: warm, timeless, and adaptable to all styles
  • Metal (black, brass, gold): elegant, contemporary, sometimes industrial
  • Ceramic or glass: more fragile but very decorative for a table lamp

Take into account the usage

  • Bedside lamp: choose one with a stable base, not too tall, and with a soft light.
  • Living room/decorative lamp: you can dare to use greater heights and bolder shapes.
  • Desk lamp: choose a functional, sturdy base with a stable foot
